January 30th, 2017 by Melanie Sutrathada How to Style the Utilitarian Trend

With the number of military-inspired pieces we’ve seen on celebrities and bloggers, the utilitarian trend shows no signs of slowing down in 2017! One of the best things about the utilitarian trend is how easy it is to wear; while it’s known for its signature masculine pieces, you can effortlessly juxtapose them with more feminine details.

Take a look at how our favorite fashionistas rock the utilitarian trend!

The easiest way to express your love for the utilitarian trend? Pick one color and build your outfit around it!

 utilitarian
This androgynous combination is a classic. Find the balance between masculinity and femininity by choosing utilitarian outerwear that encompasses both! This jacket looks masculine and bulky at first glance, but it also has feminine touches like epaulettes and asymmetrical zippers.

P3 - Le-Happy
Imitating Le-Happy’s edgy look is a great way to utilize the Crossroads army jacket you bought a few seasons back! Style it with your favorite graphic band tee, a pair of black leggings and some sneakers or boots for the perfect ’90s-inspired outfit!

P4 - She Recycles Fashion
The utilitarian color scheme typically consists of navy blue, black and olive green, but that doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with a bright pop of color! We love how this faux fur statement bag works with the rest of the outfit.

 P5 - Song Of Style
If you’re all about maximizing style with minimal effort, then a utilitarian jumpsuit is the piece for you! Throw a few accessories into the mix and you can easily wear this outfit to the office or a dinner afterwards with friends.

P6 - With Love From Kat
When a utilitarian piece is the focal point of your outfit, stick to modest prints or monochromatic colors. Style a long vest over a bodycon or black midi dress, and use a belt to accentuate your waistline. Top off this look by carrying a bag in a complementary color such as burnt orange, dark red or tan.

January 25th, 2017 by Julius Adorsu Thrift Tip: Know Your Brands!

When it comes to fashion, knowing your brands is key, especially if you’re shopping at Crossroads. Having knowledge of high-end fashion brands will help you out tremendously. The first three places I look when I walk into Crossroads are the designer fashion racks, the consignment items behind the registers, and the clothes hanging on the walls above the racks.

Some of the name brands I’ve found over the past year include: Off-White, Bape, Maison Martin Margiela, Kenzo Paris, Burberry, Versace, Rag & Bone, Vince, Joe’s Jeans, Massimo Dutti, and Billionaire Boys Club. That’s not even including everything I’ve seen that doesn’t fit me! If you see a basic item priced higher than you’d expect, there’s typically a good reason behind it. You can buy quality brands for 50-80% off that are gently used.

January 26th, 2016 by Jennifer Beile Round-Up: Hollywood’s Current Favorite Fashion Trends

Having fashion show access, professional stylists, and seemingly unlimited bank accounts, celebrities and fashion “it” girls are able to rock the latest looks and set trends season after season. Take a look at some of Hollywood’s current favorite fashion trends!

Bomber jackets

trendy obessions

A reoccurring trend seen on the likes of Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, the bomber jacket made a huge comeback in 2016 and is definitely competing for trend of the year in 2017.

Embellished Slippers

Embellished Slippers

Much like loafers and slides, embellished slippers are a style our feet are so glad we have embraced. Recently seen on Dakota Johnson and Olivia Palermo, embellished slippers are the new ‘cool girl’ shoe of the season.

Newsboy caps

Newsboy Cap

Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner frequently rock newsboy caps, and for a good reason! Top off your outfit with one for that instantly chic celebrity street style look.

Mini bags

They may not hold much, but they’ll hold your essentials and be your coolest accessory this season.

Lace-up Tops

You’ll be seeing lace-up tops everywhere this year; it’s a way to show some skin without being as overtly sexy as a classic plunge.

January 24th, 2016 by Jennifer Beile Leggings as Pants: 5 Ways to Wear the Trend

Leggings have a special place in my heart and closet, but only recently have they become acceptable to wear as pants in the fashion world. It started with the athleisure trend; leggings were being worn as bottoms outside the house and without going to a gym. We then began seeing more and more high-quality leggings produced, ones thick enough to not show everything underneath! Now leggings as pants are trending and can be worn for so many occasions… and to be honest, I kind of love it! Check out some of my favorite ways to wear leggings as pants below.

1. Play Up the Athleisure Look

leggings

Wear a tee, bomber, and sneakers with your leggings for that cool girl street style look.

2. Leather is Better

2

Opt for a pair of leather leggings and dress them up with a blouse, jacket and heels.

3. Go Oversized

3

A general rule for wearing leggings is to make sure you’re covered up with a longer top. Although I’m here to tell you to break the rules (just make sure you have opaque leggings!), the oversized look is still flattering.

4. Keep it Trendy

4

Play up a funky trend on top with a statement coat, fun sweater, or colors and textures to keep your look current.

5. It’s All in the Details

5

Small details like ankle zippers, texture, and panels will up your leggings game.
